Getting started

What to do, in order, the first time.

Create your account

Username, e-mail address, password. The password must be at least twelve characters and contain an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a digit and a special character — the screen tells you in real time what is missing.

A validation e-mail is sent to you. Click the link: the application unlocks by itself, without you having to restart it. The link stays valid for one hour; after that, a button lets you request another.

The guided tutorial

On first launch, an eight-step tutorial walks you through the application. It can be skipped at any point, but it does show the button that pushes the deadline back — the one people look for afterwards.

Fill your vault

Three drawers await. "Passwords": application, username, password, as many as you like. "Phone": the PIN, the PUK code, and the unlock pattern you draw with your mouse on a nine-dot grid. "Journal": notes sorted into categories, with a full text editor.

Take your time over the Phone section: a locked device is very often the first closed door a family runs into.

Understanding the dashboard

For as long as automatic unlocking is switched off — which is the starting setting — the dashboard says your SafeTale is locked and that no trusted contact will be able to reach it.

Once the mechanism is armed, it shows the time remaining and the button that resets it. That is the only gesture to repeat.
